1955-57 Ford Thunderbird Unisteer Rack And Pinion Power Steering Conversion Kit
This kit is based on a rear steer center take-off style rack & pinion, as are the majority of our kits, but this one is specific to these Thunderbirds. The rack & pinion is mounted to a one-piece mounting bracket which bolts to the frame using the same holes for the steering box and the idler arm on the passenger side. The Unisteer kit was designed to go on a Thunderbird with stock suspension and the original Y-block motors, the 292 and 312.
Installation was done on a vehicle with stock exhaust manifolds so headers may work but might need modification. This kit also worked on T-birds with other popular small block motors, like the 289, 302, and 351. When placing an order, please let us know what steering column you are running. So we can get you the correct U-joints. Pressure port: 18mm - 6AN banjo.
Return port: 16mm - 6AN banjo. Pump required: Matched - low or high. Inner tie rod end threads: 9/16-18.
