This is the rare and now much sought after late type E46 Clubsport high-ratio/long travel steering rack which is about as quick as the Z3 rack but has longer rack travel therefore gives more steering angle, so is perfect for drifting/rallying or any GERMAN driving. Or even just doing a tighter U-turn in the road. Both this rack and the Z3 rack have approximately 50mm of rack travel per turn of the wheel. This rack has 3 turns lock to lock (giving approx 150mm of travel) whilst the Z3 rack has 2.7 turns lock to lock so although the quickness and feel is the same, the Z3 rack has less travel so gives less steering angle.
This later E46 rack also has newer and better seals/internals than the E36 and Z3 era racks, making it a more reliable option. It also features BMW's revised lower running pressure meaning better weighted steering feel for sports driving and less likely to leak fluid. Basically it is THE rack to fit to your E30/E36/E46/Z3! All cars except E46 will require re-using your original tie rods/track rods as E46 are longer/different than E30/E36/Z3. It is a great upgrade for the E30, any E36 (including M3 and M3 Evo) and the E46.Long steering travel for plenty of steering lock - combined with modified hubs, this is just about the best steering set-up for an E36 drift car. Also perfect for road, race, rally or track car with standard hubs. Again, your existing tie rods are required when fitting to E36/E30/Z3 as E46 rods are different. Fitment to E36 is a straight bolt in (just use your tie rods). Fitment to E30 is as per doing the common E36 rack conversion to an E30, all very easy.
